Majestic Vistas
A short hike up the old jeep trail from the main complex affords
our visitors with an expansive view of the surrounding area from Southeast
to Southwest, including Cathedral Mountain (South of Alpine) and the Chinati
Mtns (far to the Southwest of Marfa). Even greater views are waiting for
those who venture the steep climb to the top of Brown Mtn. (see details
under Hiking below).

Rugged Landscapes
Our facility sits at the mouth of a canyon walled with rock formations
reminiscent of those found at Bryce Canyon, Utah. Colored hues that
pass from red to yellow add a special contrast to the shades of gray of
the surrounding mountains and the greenery of the tree-lined canyon floor.
The scene to the South and Southwest could easily be mistaken for Monument
Valley, Arizona with buttes, mesas, and sole mountains rising from the
valley floor as if from out of nowhere.

Hiking Trails
If you are looking for a short nature walk or an all-day hike, we've
got it. As mentioned above, a short hike up the old jeep trail lends access
to some wonderful scenic vistas to the South. Another short walk into the
nearby canyon offers a much closer, more intimate view of the many colorful
rock formations that line the canyon walls. For the more adventurous hiker,
an all-day hike around the circumference of Brown Mtn. and our working
ranch provides a multi-faceted look at the natural beauty of the Davis
Mtns. A more strenuous hike to the top of Brown Mtn. awards the better
fit hiker with some of the most fantastic views in the area, including
an expansive look at Mount Livermore, and distant views of the Gaudelupe
Mtns. near Carlsbad, New Mexico and the Sierra Rico Mtns. across the border
in Mexico.

Abundant Wildlife
Most of the Davis Mtns. is either working ranches or conservation
land, leaving only a small percentage of the area occupied with human inhabitants.
Wildlife is abundant and very diverse. We enjoy a wide variety of animals
right here at our facility, including the more common muledeer, javelina,
fox, antelope, turkey buzzard, hawks, and several other species of birds.
Some lucky guests may even see the more elusive nocturnal creatures such
as the bobcat and ring-tailed cat.
